A vacuum is a volume empty of matter, sometimes called ‘free-space’. In practice, only partial vacuums are possible. The definition of a vacuum is not precise but is commonly taken to mean pressures below, and often considerably below, atmospheric pressure.
It is a condition well below normal atmospheric pressure and is measured in units of pressure (Pascal).
