One of the stages of compression, often understood as the compression element of the compressor unit – for example, the rotor and housing with diffusers of a centrifugal compressor, or the air end (rotors and housing) of a screw compressor. Depending on the technical possibilities and requirements regarding the operating pressure of the machine, there are one or more number of these stages. In order to improve the efficiency of the compression process, the so-called intercoolers are applied.
