A space in which the volume of compressed air is reduced in positive displacement compressors – i.e., e.g., the cylinder space closed by the piston (displacement volume), the part of the screw compressor body ending with the outlet port, the position of the rotor of a vane compressor with the smallest volume closed between the blades, the rotor and body etc.
